Pluto TV Adding New Channels And Top Documentaries

Pluto TV Logo

Pluto TV is adding two new channels and two movies to its lineup. Two new channels based on BBC programming will allow Pluto TV to deliver programming based out of the UK and let streamers learn new recipes and find out what real estate costs overseas. They can also get a taste of what a high maintenance buying looks like outside of the US. A little tip for you, they are just as needy.

Two new documentaries will launch as well. The films include My Father The Mover. The documentary was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival, the Audience Award at The Boston Globe’s GlobeDocs, and a nominee for the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards.  After its debut at Tribeca, the film went on to win Best Documentary Short at Calgary Film Festival, Best Short Film at Cleveland International Film Festival, Best Documentary Short at Urbanworld Film Festival, among others. It has also screened at Palm Springs, Heartland, Montclair, Flickers’ Rhode Island, Amdocs, Florida film festivals, and more.

The film features a South African teenager named Alatha whose father calls himself a Mover. Using African dance moves – electronic Gqom beats – he helps kids in Khayelitsha township to transcend hardship and “find their superpowers.” The Mover is also a single father, and while he has helped many kids, he still has difficulty getting his own daughter to find her own powers.  But in a tender moment together, that is all about to change.

A second film, A Life Too Short concerns the “honor killing” of a Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch. An honor Killing is a barbaric practice by which a male relative kills a female relative who has fallen short of their own imposed value system. The film looks at her life death and the ways it influenced the country afterward.
