Acorn With New Shows This August

Acorn has a lot planned for the Fall. The Euro streaming service highlighted 5 returning series and one new show, the Sounds which will be available next month along with four returning series. There is a lot to see and it starts this August.

FAMILY BUSINESS (August 24)
A charming and contemporary look at family strife, this female-led French drama about a legal powerhouse mother-daughter duo and their bustling law firm takes a fascinating approach at modern social issues from custody battles to involuntary commitment to trans rights. While they juggle the ins and outs at their practice, the lawyers must also balance and navigate their own issues away from the office.

MOUNT PLEASANT FINALE SPECIAL (August 24)
This heartwarming 2010’s UK dramedy hit about the lives of a tightly-knit family in suburban Manchester, which originally aired on Sky, winds down with this final season and surprise
packed finale special that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the main couple, Lisa (Sally Lindsay,Coronation Street, Scott & Bailey) and Dan Johnson (Daniel Ryan (Black Sea).

 THE SOUNDS (Acorn TV Original Series, Commissioned) – NEW! Two-episode premiere on Thursday, September 3, with weekly premieres on Mondays from September 7 through October 12
This twisty psychological thriller stars Rachelle Lefevre (Proven Innocent, Under The Dome) and Matt Whelan (Narcos, Top of the Lake) as a happy married Canadian couple who move to a sleepy town in New Zealand to escape the husband’s oppressive father and launch his own business venture- a salmon fishery- that will help revive the local troubled economy. But when husband Tom disappears after he goes out kayaking, unsettling facts about him soon come to light, and the search brings long-buried wounds to the surface.  As wife Maggie struggles to navigate the escalating events, it becomes clear that in this small, seemingly close-knit community of Pelorus, nothing and no one are quite what they seem.

In this BAFTA Cyrmu-winning Welsh drama from the producers of The Fall, ambitious police officer Gina Jenkins (Catrin Stewart, Stella) and her longtime partner, Luke Lloyd (Jack Parry-Jones, Moon Dogs) investigate a series of murders connected to an historic rape allegation. Also, Gina’s brother, Sam (Jacob Ifan, Cuffs) is released from prison and is determined to stay out of trouble, but he finds his life turned upside down yet again by violent crime.

MYSTERY ROAD, Series 2 (Acorn TV Original series) – Mondays, October 12-November 9
Aaron Pedersen (Jack Irish, A Place to Call Home) reprises his signature role as indigenous detective Jay Swan in this beautifully-filmed, multiple award-winning mystery set in the Australian outback. When a body is found in the mangroves of a coastal town of Gideon, Jay teams up with local constable Fran Davis (Jada Alberts, Wentworth) to investigate the crime. Soon a nearby archaeologist (Sofia Helin, The Bridge) makes a find that could help with the case, but she conceals it for fear of shutting down her dig site. Facing obstruction at every turn and a rising body count, Jay must expose the web of corruption plaguing the town.
