Sling TV Strengthens Hispanic Programming

Sling TV continues to strengthen its outreach to the Spanish speaking population of the American public. This should come as no surprise considering that the company, which is owned by Dish has its roots in international TV streaming. Long before Sling TV burst on the scene Dish was looking at the viability of streaming live content via a now-defunct app called Dish World.  Its latest push into the Hispanic community offers multiple regional packages and the ability for Spanish speakers to add Spanish language programming with and without any English based programming like the Sling Orange and Blue packages.

What Sling TV is doing is breaking the channels up by cultural groups instead of just putting all of the Spanish speaking population into one bucket.  The experience would be akin to millions of Americans living in say China but only having access to shows and news from Ireland or South Africa. Americans want to watch the NCAA Tournament but instead see rugby. For Hispanics with traditional TV packages faced with choices like Telemundo or no Spanish programming, this has been a reality. With the regional packages though, Hispanics will be able to hone in on programming from their actual home countries. The packages will let people like my cousin’s Honduran girlfriend will finally see whats going on back home through a local lens.

Each Spanish-language package is available for $10 per month when purchased on a standalone basis, or $5 per month when combined with “Sling Orange,” “Sling Blue” and/or any Spanish-language service from Sling TV.
